Chairman – Bishop Jonas BORUTA SJ

Lithuanian Catholic Academy of Science was established in 1922. Its aim is to recruit Catholic scientists to a creative scientific work providing them with suitable working conditions. It also seeks to train new scientists so that the Academy would become a center of Catholic scientists, able to integrate Lithuanian science into a scientific depository of the whole world. Ultimately it tries to educate Lithuanian nation and to contribute to a Catholic culture.

Academy has over 700 members, including nearly 200 scientists living abroad. The members ate classified into four categories: members (with a scientific degree), members-supporters (still in the process of achieving a scientific degree and seeking for the development of culture and science), members of honor and members academicians.

Lithuanian Catholic Academy of Science has departments in different towns all over the country: in Vilnius, Kaunas, Klaipeda, Šiauliai, Panevėžys, Alytus, Telšiai and Utena. Specialists in different spheres rally in sections, the most active of which are the ones of history, pedagogy, ethnology, medicine and informatics.
